Career Development Programme
What is a career?
In this context, a career simply refers to the working life you have had — and the working life you intend to have.
Nothing more.
There is no predefined direction attached to the word, and no built-in criteria for what it should look like. For that reason, it makes little sense to apply subjective superlatives such as “successful”, “failed” or “crashed” to a career without first defining what those words mean.
A career can only be evaluated against your own values and priorities. What appears impressive from the outside may feel misaligned on the inside. Conversely, what seems modest to others may represent precisely the balance and meaning you were aiming for.
The purpose of the Career Development Programme is therefore not to push your career in a particular direction, but to clarify what direction — if any — is right for you.
Different paths of career development
Most professions offer at least two classical paths of development: the specialist path and the leadership path.
As a specialist, you deepen your expertise and become increasingly skilled within a defined field. Your value lies in knowledge, precision and professional competence.
As a leader, your focus gradually shifts from technical mastery to responsibility for people, decisions and direction.
In many industries, a third path has emerged: project leadership. This discipline differs significantly from traditional line management, yet it also represents a distinct and valid development track.
There is, however, another path that is often overlooked.
It is the path where you deliberately choose to maintain a reasonable workload and income — not because you lack ambition, but because you have decided that work should not dominate your life.
For some, there is an all-consuming hobby or creative pursuit that deserves energy and attention. For others, family life or community engagement is the primary priority. In such cases, the professional career must be solid enough to provide financial stability — but not so dominant that it erodes the rest of life.
This, too, is a legitimate career choice.
The role of conscious choice
Career difficulties rarely arise because people deliberately choose the wrong path. More often, they arise because choices were never made consciously in the first place.
Many professionals move forward by responding to opportunities as they appear. A promotion is offered. A new responsibility emerges. A more prestigious position becomes available. Each step seems reasonable in isolation. Yet over time, the direction may reflect accumulated momentum rather than deliberate choice.
When you have worked systematically with your career direction, something changes. You no longer evaluate every opportunity from a place of uncertainty. Instead, you often recognise instinctively whether a role aligns with your values and long-term intentions. You may even be offered an attractive position that others consider an obvious step forward — yet you are prepared to decline because it does not fit your plan.
The ability to say “no” with clarity is often as important as the ability to say “yes”.
Another element frequently overlooked in career planning is the role of pauses in development.
Many professionals in their thirties experience significant combined pressure. They establish families, have young children, build houses, increase financial commitments and attempt to maintain social connections. At the same time, their professional career accelerates. The first management position appears. Expectations increase. Responsibility grows.
Under such combined pressure, burnout is not uncommon.
A sustainable career plan must take such phases into account. There are periods in life where professional acceleration may not be the primary priority. During those times, it can be both wise and strategic to place your career in what might be described as “cruise mode” — continuing to build experience and credibility, but without continuously increasing pressure.
When space opens again — when personal circumstances stabilise or capacity returns — you are positioned to accelerate deliberately rather than reactively.
Career development does not need to follow a straight upward line. It can, and often should, move in phases.
Conscious choice includes recognising when to advance — and when to consolidate.
Structure of the programme
The Career Development Programme provides a structured framework for clarifying direction, priorities and realistic opportunities.
The process may include:
- Clarifying your current position and long-term perspective
- Identifying what truly matters to you in professional life
- Personality insight and increased self-knowledge
- Mapping of professional and personal competencies
- Evaluating realistic options and development paths
- Creating a structured and flexible career plan
- Defining milestones and possible educational steps
- Integrating personal life circumstances into career decisions
- Addressing challenges that arise along the way
The aim is not merely to define a goal, but to ensure that your career develops in a direction that you can stand behind — both professionally and personally.
Programme levels
The Career Development Programme is offered in three levels, depending on the depth of process required.
Basis Level
Designed for those who wish to establish a structured career plan that provides clarity and direction, and forms a solid basis for deciding on the next steps.
Pro Level
Intended for individuals who seek deeper self-insight and a career plan that integrates multiple aspects of life, with follow-up to ensure that intentions are translated into action.
VIP Level
For professionals with significant ambitions who require comprehensive insight into strengths, limitations and strategic positioning, including ongoing sparring as circumstances evolve.
Underlying principle
The purpose of this programme is not to accelerate your career at any cost.
It is to ensure that your career supports the life you wish to live — rather than gradually replacing it.
A successful career is not defined by title or income. It is defined by coherence between your professional role, your personal values and the responsibilities you carry outside work
Prefer learning with others?
The Career Development Programme is also available as a cohort programme, where a small group of professionals work through the same material together.
The content is identical to the 1:1 programme. The difference is the dynamic — shared reflection, peer perspectives and the experience of recognising your own challenges in someone else's story.
The first cohort will be limited in size. Register your interest below to receive an invitation when enrolment opens.
